What does civil court history mean?

Civil case history reports include a record of any litigation filed against or by the subject. ERS obtains civil information from the District court in the applicable jurisdictions.

An important limitation in civil court history records is that lawsuits usually are only filed by name. (Identifiers such as date of birth and social security number are not usually available on these cases.) As a result, it can be costly and time consuming to fully research civil court histories for people with common names. In most cases, ERS recommends credit checks be used in conjunction with civil court searches to control customer search costs.

ERS Civil Court History Search:

  • Search of records from local, district courts within which the applicant has held residence and/or employment plus any districts identified by customer or through individual's application.
  • Costs are charged on a time and service charges basis.

Report Contents: When a civil case is found, the following information is reported:

  • Case Number
  • File Date
  • Cause (type of case)
  • Parties Involved
  • Judgment Date
  • Judgment
